Staying inside.

It's Le Tour and Le World Cup here. TVs are on all the time, but tuned only to the latter. Nik and I watched a leg of Le Tour with French commentary. It was a good way to spend some hot hours (Venice is oppressive between 2 and 5 when it's sunny and the tourists are out in full force!) I recommend a siesta… do as Cath advised us… go out at 5am for seeing the sights, then rest, then re-emerge later to eat.

Some early morning photos of Venice.....

The air conditioning in Venice Apartments (which we will call Apartment A) worked well, once it got over its initial reluctance to operate at all (very subtle air flow for the first hour until you later realise that it is actually doing its job). We couldn't say the same for apartment B (Viv and William's). I stayed there with William and the "air conditioner" was an evaporative cooler devoid of water or a water tray, so it was effectively a fan. It would have been OK if the flaps that direct air hadn't been broken, which meant you couldn't aim the airflow effectively. It was impossible to close the window without expiring from a micro-global warming event involving CO2 levels that Al Gore would be familiar with, so mosquitoes were also a problem. Add in a complete power failure, and a blaming landlord (our communication problem could have been prevented by her texting us, but it is "very expensive in Italy" so it was all our fault that she didn't know where we were!) and the picture of what I call "the hell-hole" is complete.

William in the hell hole.
I was thankful for the first night's sleep at Venice apartments, because the other nights involved fitful rest only. William seemed to cope OK, but he also wasn't happy. We'll be putting our review on Budget Stays.
