Some Venezia vignettes- Food (more food photos to come)

Ok so "Venezia vignettes" is a mashup of Italian and French, but I know no better.

Eating in Venice.
Vivienne and William arrived the next morning by ferry direct from the airport. They had much to report, largely to do with living in self assigned poverty, which meant not eating well, and spending much time in the apartment. From what I gathered, they had hardly eaten a fruit or vegetable since they left Australia, let alone a piece of meat. Not a healthy diet, so it was no wonder they really enjoyed the layover at Barcelona, courtesy of Brussels airlines, with buffet laid on. They had discussed the possibility of leaving the airport, but deemed it too much of a hassle, so their experience of Spanish culture could hardly be counted. Spain.. been there, done that!

Back to eating out in Venice.

We didn't.
Because of the deprivation, and because of her lifestyle choices, Vivienne was determined to experience the best of Italian food. Top of her list was gelati, but anything will do for Viv.

Savouring an Apperol
Lis had tipped us off that the place to get gelati was Grom, and we did some googling to discover that the Gelati Boutique was also highly rated. it was close and was the first to be sampled. Viv was disappointed and went into a deep depression… an unenjoyable gelati in Venice represented an eating opportunity wasted! These opportunities are scarce! First world problem, definitely. William and I chanced on the Grom gelati whilst making our way back from a boat tour, and it was definitely fantastic. I have to say though.. my grapefruit and strawberry gelati in Menaggio was hard to beat!

One night we ate out at a lovely restaurant only 50 metres from our apartments. It was fantastic, and the service was delightful, with a really pleasant and attentive manager. We ate quite a lot, and managed to slowly carry ourselves and our bellies home.
I can recommend this highly

If you look carefully, the image on the wall has had bricks painted
in to match the wall itself (zoom required)
Home with full bellies
The apartment (Rani, Nik and Stephanie's, where we spent most of our time) was well equipped with a kitchen, so once we had located the local supermarket, we were quite happy to cook and eat in. The home cooked meals were a real pleasure (thanks to all the chefs- Rani, Steph and Mary get a special mention) It's funny how you can be on the other side of the world and become quite used to the ritual of supermarket shopping and preparing meals in the kitchen.. it's not very different in Venice to how it is in Geelong!
