It's not a hard ride to get from Menaggio to Porlezza, on nearby Lake Laguna.
In fact it's about 14km, and you can do it mainly avoiding the main road.. which is challenging as it is narrow and the occasional passer by will give you a fright (most are amazingly patient and courteous.. this is another bicycle aware culture)
On a fine day, we got out the trusty Terns, and headed off on our expedition.

Does that say Como? |

That little blob to the left of the bush is Mary. The traffic can be a
bit daunting

Sometimes the drivers go close |

I quite like the photos on the headstones
More personal.. and also more sad.
Makes me ponder the person's life, their
loves, their dreams, the ones they leave behind. |

We think this is a bike rider showing off.. Look No hands! |

Later we were commended for NOT riding down
this street, but this was the "before" shot. |

In Porlezza |
We made a spontaneous decision for the return trip to avoid the main road and ascend to Naggio. This would probably be challenging, so we stocked up on supplies. Mary checked out some alternative means of transport...
|
But the horse wasn't willing |
|
So we started rising above Porlezza |
|
The gradient was tough at times. My geared up
bike is better suited to not-so-steep-hills so I found
some bits challenging |
|
but we got progressively higher and higher |
|
I wish we had discovered this bike path on the way there..
Would have avoided some scary traffic. |
|
Someone wasn't happy about the bike path ending.
Wasn't me.. promise! |
|
The clockwise route. |
