Gorges du Fier

This is an amazing narrow gorge sliced out of limestone, about 10km from Annecy. The flood level markers are impressive, as is the engineering of the walkway and the natural formation of the walls.

Amazing engineering to make walkway.

My confidence in the engineering dropped when I saw this.

Equally impressive is the sudden intrusion of the loud train siren as it hurtles above you without warning… what a shock when you think you are in the middle of nowhere, enjoying a natural formation. Such is Europe… people and engineering structures are never far away, and no terrain seems to prohibit construction or travel!

The train hurtles over you here.. a bit of a shock.

I love the French forest growth.. so deep green!
